SUMMARY:50th Anniversary of the Orkney County Council Act: A Talk by Howie Firth
DESCRIPTION:50th Anniversary of the Orkney County Council Act:   A Talk by Howie Firth\n\n\nMonday 26th February 2024 7.30pm\nSt Magnus Centre Friends’ Room\n\n\nThis year marks the 50th anniversary of the passing of the Orkney County Council Act which\, along with its counterpart in Shetland\, allowed the islands to control oil developments\, and provided environmental protection and economic benefits which continue today. Working in the local media in the late 1970s\, Howie met the people behind the drawing up of this important and farsighted piece of legislation and heard about the thinking behind it. With Orkney on the cusp of major renewable energy developments both onshore and offshore\, are there lessons to be learnt for today from the 1974 Act? \n\n\n\nFree entry\, but numbers limited. Please reserve your place via Eventbrite at the link below. Donations to OHS welcome on the night! \nhttps://www.eventbrite.com/e/50th-anniversary-of-the-orkney-county-council-act-a-talk-by-howie-firth-tickets-835858795157

SUMMARY:SSEN Consultation Event - Kirkwall - Feb 2019
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Scottish & Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) are holding a consultation event in Kirkwall on Wednesday 6 February\, at [location] \nWe encourage you to attend to this consultation to air your views on the project. Orkney Heritage Society have made it clear in previous posts that the planned works show a wilful disregard for the landscape in which the people of Orkney live. We feel that he overriding concern of the developers has been to keep costs to an absolute minimum regardless of visual impact on the environment. \nimage description \n [/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
